Two days of testing completed. Students felt much better today. Most of the students were finished after about 1 1/2 hours of testing on math. Students said today was much better. Yesterday, they worked so hard. They were exhausted after most students took about over 2 hours to complete the ELA test. I'm sure they slept well last night. I have been very proud of their hard work!
Please see the lists of spelling words and math vocabulary words I've added. If your child forgets to bring their words home, you can find them on this site under Spelling Words and Math Vocabulary.
A note came home in the Monday communicator about sending $5 for this year's parties. If you haven't sent this in yet, please send $5 as soon as you can. This helps us purchase things needed for crafts, etc. for each party.
I also sent a note home about allowing me to post pictures on this website of your child taken in class showing what's happening during the day in the classroom. I have received about half of these slips back. If you do not have this note, please let me know so I can send an extra slip home. I ask you to mark either "yes" or "no" so I can include your child in some of the pictures. I have posted a few pictures, but if I hadn't received your slip back, I blurred faces of those students. I received a few slips after I had blurred those faces. Students enjoy seeing their picture on these websites. I am having a little bit of trouble with some students getting their homework (classwork) completed by the following day. Remember if they don't turn completed work in by the following day, I write a note in the assignment book stating they have missing work. If they receive three of these in one week, the student earns a detention. The first detention is served at recess. After that, they will serve after school detentions. Many students are not having parents/guardians initial their assignment books each day. By doing this, it helps parents stay on top of their child's work each day. I have the students x out things we don't get to during the day; check mark things that they have completed; or write a circled H if it is homework. This should help parents understand what their child has for homework. Also, I explained to students that they should be reading for 20 minutes nightly. There are a few parents that write the title of the book the child read with the number of minutes read each night. This helps me check their weekly reading easier. Some students don't record anything. Does this mean they aren't reading? This is considered homework! We will be having a math test the week of October 10. It will be on Thursday or Friday that week. I will send a study guide home this Friday. The test will also include vocabulary words. They will bring home a bag with these words in to play "concentration" one day next week to help prepare for the test. Please make sure your child returns library books by Wednesday. This is our media center day this year. Remember picture day is Tuesday, September 20.
Also, I will be sending home a note about posting students picture on this site or on my Instagram. Please mark the appropriate box, sign, and return to school as soon as possible. Please see the first email update I sent yesterday after school. I will be updating parents on this website at least once a week. Please try to check this site often. I will be letting you know what's going on in our classroom and any important information about things that may be coming up at school. This website and technology piece is new for me this year so you may see some mistakes, but I am trying it. If you prefer to receive these updates as an email or just a sheet sent home whenever I update, please let me know.
